Finding Power When You Need It Most

“LORD, give me strength.  Give me power.  Help me get through this.  I can’t do it without you…”  How many times have you uttered those words this week?  This day?  In the past 45 minutes?

Power.  It's something everyone is looking for, but so many lack.  God promises to give us power – that’s clear throughout Scripture – but then how come we find ourselves struggling so much?  Struggling with sin, addictions, frustrations, hurt, failure.  WHERE IS THE POWER????

(children of the 90s – aka ‘the greatest decade ever’ – what’s the first thing that popped into your head when I asked that last question?  If it isn’t THIS SONG, then you are an imposter – not a true child of the 90s).

In 2 Timothy 3:5, God describes some of us as “…having a form of godliness but denying its power.”  They’ve got the form… they’ve got the tools… they seem to be doing everything right… BUT THEY LACK THE POWER.  Can you relate?

Having a form of godliness. It means that they’re doing the right things on the outside – saying their prayers, asking for God’s help, going to church.  But the power isn't there.  It isn't in those outside things.  Those outside things are very important, but they are simply a means to the end.

The end is…CHRIST!  “Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor”1 Chronicles 29:11.

Are you struggling with spiritual power failure?  Lacking the power to change your dark side, to conquer the baggage of your past, to master those weaknesses that bring you down, or to get free from the guilt and shame of the past?  Are you drowning under the pressure of this world, with its deadlines and busyness, feeling overwhelmed and under-equipped?

What’s the solution?  JESUS!

He is the only answer.  Instead of making Him our last resort, let’s make Him first priority.  Let’s lay all our cares upon Him knowing that He cares for us.  Let us trust that He takes care of our needs as a mother takes care of her children.  Let us seek Him wholeheartedly and not rest until we find Him.

Regardless of what the world throws our way, we have an answer in Jesus.

“He gives power to the weak and to those who have no might He increases strength…Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings like eagles.”  Isaiah 40:29, 31
